The Foundation for a Sustainable Wisconsin was started in March, 2014 by Appleton resident Mark Christoper Scheffler.
Mark is a life-long, third-generation Wisconsin resident, born in Wausau in 1969, graduated from Lawrence University in 1992, taught in the Kenosha Unified School District No. 1 until 1995, and has worked in the financial services industry for more than 20 years. In 2002, Mark founded Appleton Group, LLC a Wisconsin Registered Investment Advisory firm that works to help investors better navigate today’s volatile and unpredictable investment markets. As of the end of 2016, The Appleton Group LLC managed more than $133 million for individuals, corporations and trusts.
Mark’s love of Wisconsin prompted him to establish The Foundation for a Sustainable Wisconsin to help preserve our state’s tradition of common sense, hard work, strong communities, and desire for progress. “Forward!” is the state’s motto, and with a strong and broad coalition of support he believes that not only can true sustainability be achieved for our state, but Wisconsin can be a model of sustainability for the United States and for the world.
Sustainability is the “silver bullet” that can go a long way in solving many of the major issues we face today, including job creation, debt, tax policy, environmental protection, resource allocation, family and community life, national and personal security, efficient and transparent governance, educational achievement, and so much more.
Government has a key role to play in advancing sustainability issues and supporting large-scale implementation.
Contrary to conventional economic theory, sustainability (self-sufficiency) is the key to long-term economic prosperity for Wisconsin.
True government reform (election reform and bi-partisanship) cannot be accomplished in a two-party system that focuses on competition rather than collaboration. Qualified, bi-partisan candidates are best equipped to forge the broad coalitions necessary to address the long-term sustainability of our State.
